REACH Regulation
The EU REACH Regulation came into force on 1 June 2007 and replaces the current risk assessment system for chemicals in the EU. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals and is based on the idea that industry itself is best placed to ensure that the chemicals it manufactures and puts on the market in the EU do not adversely affect human health or the environment. This requires that industry has certain knowledge of the properties of its substances and manages potential risks. Authorities should focus their resources on ensuring industry are meeting their obligations and taking action on substances of very high concern.

Lead REACH Consortium
Lead metal and lead compounds are subject to the provisions of REACH and the International Lead Association Europe in partnership with the European Lead Oxide Association and European Lead Stabiliser Association is coordinating the lead industry’s response. Consortium News:

Registration Completed:
The consortium has overseen the successful registration of the 26 dossiers under its remit. For all substances, Lead Registrant dossiers were required by the deadline of30 November 2010. All Lead Registrants successfully submitted their dossiers before the deadline. In total, around 450 registrations were submitted for the Lead REACH Consortium substances.

Generic Safety Data Sheet Development has begun:The consortium is committed to producing generic, REACH-compliant SDS files for use by its members and shortly expects to provide members with these SDSs.
